Dance company Co3 to launch new work at AGWA

From The Australian.

When Perth-based contemporary dance company Co3 was launched last year — the first of its kind in Western Australia for more than two decades — it outlined three core aims: curate, commission, create.

Audiences will see all three in action this week when artistic director Raewyn Hill leads the nine full-time company dancers, including Katherine Gurr, in workshopping a new dance amid the collection of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

Reason for Being will take inspiration from the architecture and artworks in the space and reinterpret them through choreography, beginning on Wednesday.

Sections of the dance will be created in a series of workshops at AGWA over two years, and then performed as one piece in 2018.

“This collaboration begins an exciting journey for the new work, where AGWA becomes the site for creative exploration through contemporary dance,” says Hill.

“Partnerships with other local community and arts organisations thread through the Reason for Being project, and I’m looking forward to having this process open to public observation.”
