Mario commenced his career as a qualified school teacher but made a life-changing decision to move into media. In newspapers, Mario spent many years covering State politics, writing a weekly political column, weekly restaurant reviews and football match reports.

Mario gained live radio experience at the ABC in the 1980s before joining Channel Seven Perth as a reporter in news and public affairs in local and national programs. In recent years, he was also a relief presenter on daily talkback programs on Radio 6PR, interviewing Australia’s leading political and business figures on topics of the day.

In June 2011 Mario was appointed Managing Director of Channel Seven Perth. He is on the board of the Channel Seven Telethon Trust, which has raised more than $240m – for the betterment of the health and welfare of children in WA.

Mario is a director of the Australian Institute of Management WA, a director of the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts and a director of WA Opera. Mario is also a former director of local health-tech success, Health Engine and a former member of the Asia Business Centre Advisory Board at Curtin University.
