PAPER, SCISSORS, ROCKET! – WA’s Premier Contemporary Dance Company Takes On The Regions

This November, Co3 Contemporary Dance, Western Australia’s state contemporary dance company, will tour WA’s Southwest region to bring an exciting and energy-filled dance performance and workshop incursion, ‘Paper, Scissors, Rocket!’ to local primary schools. The professional dancers will be on the road from 11-22 November, visiting schools throughout Bunbury, Busselton, Albany and surrounding areas.

Commissioned in 2016, ‘Paper, Scissors, Rocket!’ visited 22 primary schools delivering over 20 performances and 50 workshops. The world-class contemporary dance company is thrilled to return to the regions to deliver the combined performance and workshop program, fully subsidised and at no cost to local schools, thanks to the support of the State Government of WA through the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries and Healthway.

‘Paper, Scissors, Rocket!’ encourages primary school students to engage in a vibrant and collaborative experience, witnessing and working with professional contemporary dancers to explore themes of personal resilience, teamwork and self-confidence. Choreographed by Perth-based dance collective Unkempt Dance, the interactive production follows the adventure of two friends discovering their similarities and differences, harnessing the imagination to explore how each person is valuable in their own way.

“Paper, Scissors, Rocket! places personality and, recognition of individuality at the core, creating a unique offering that builds trust within a reciprocal learning environment, motivates creative thinkers and empowers our next generation in their own creative expression”, said Artistic Director Raewyn Hill, nationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer.

“I am so pleased for the opportunity to provide this program at no cost to primary schools throughout the Southwest region, and I’m looking forward to again having our Company Dancers provide a unique and enriching educational experience to young people throughout the State”, she said.

Co3 Contemporary Dance frequently connects with communities based outside the Perth-metropolitan area, touring regionally to primary schools annually since 2016. In 2017, in collaboration with Sydney Dance Company, Company Dancers toured nationally and throughout regional areas performing ‘Crazy Times’; a production for primary-aged audiences, which premiered at the Sydney Opera House.

Based in Perth, WA, Co3 Contemporary Dance is the State’s flagship contemporary dance company and resident at the State Theatre Centre of WA. Led by Artistic Director, Raewyn Hill, Co3 Contemporary Dance is a contemporary organisation, generating contemporary conversations through dance. With art at our core, we inspire people and enrich lives through dance. We present an annual program of main stage works by our professional company, present performances by our youth company, deliver dancer professional development and pathway programs, deliver education programs for students and produce regional touring programs throughout the State.
