Richard has worked in a number of roles in the Australian dance sector, including General Manager at Tasdance, Community and Education Manager at Dancenorth, and has served on a number of Australia Council for the Arts peer assessment panels. From January 2015, Richard has been working as strategy and investment consultant to Nga Rangatahi Toa Creative Arts Initiative, supporting young people in alternative education to successfully transition into employment, tertiary training, or back into mainstream schooling.

A graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance in 1999, Richard went on to dance with the Royal New Zealand Ballet. In 2007 he worked for Queensland Ballet presenting an in school’s performance of Romeo and Juliet throughout northern Queensland. Richard worked as repetiteur for Raewyn Hill’s Vespers at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow in 2009. In addition to dance, Richard graduated from the University of Canterbury with Honours in Sociology in 2007 and was awarded a Masters Scholarship and University Prize for Academic Achievement.
