The Bird Makers Project – Set to tour regional WA in 2021

The Bird Makers Project was a global community engagement initiative devised by Co3 Artistic Director Raewyn Hill and Japanese sculptural artist Naoko Yoshimoto that ran from April to December of 2020. The resulting 1500 blackbirds made by members of our WA community became a signature feature of the set for Archives of Humanity. We received birds and accompanying stories from participants across WA. Many who narrated their origin and family’s migration to WA from over 40 different countries across the world.

Through Lotterywest’s Building Communities grant we are now planning to extend this community engagement program to the regions across WA, hosting in-person workshops at various community centres, schools and cultural venues.

We are grateful to all Bird Makers, individuals, families and businesses who were involved and supported The Bird Makers Project in many and varied ways. You can see the full list in the link below of all those involved in giving us the gift to dream.
