Akira Isogawa

Akira Isogawa is one of Australia’s most celebrated fashion designers, renowned for his distinctive approach to textiles, fashion, and costume design. Born in Kyoto and based in Sydney, he founded his eponymous label in 1993 and has presented collections for over 30 years, with a practice shaped by work in both Sydney and Paris.

His work has been featured in more than 30 exhibitions worldwide, including a solo show at the National Gallery of Victoria and a major retrospective at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences.

Akira has designed costumes for The Australian Ballet, West Australian Ballet, and Sydney Dance Company, highlighting his contribution to contemporary works. He has also designed the stage uniform for the Australian Chamber Orchestra, reflecting his broad artistic influence. His contributions have earned him the Australian Fashion Laureate, induction into the Design Institute of Australia’s Hall of Fame, and recognition as an Australian Legend by Australia Post, with his portrait featured on a national postage stamp.
