Alex Kay

Alex Kay is a Perth born and bred contemporary dancer. She began her dance training with the Perth School of Ballet as well as performing with STEPS Youth Dance Company in 2014 under the directorship of Alice Lee Holland, and then in 2015 with Co3 Contemporary Dance Youth as a founding member.

In 2018 Alex graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) with a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) where she completed a semester abroad at the Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA). Alex also performed in Taiwan as a part of the Kuan-Du Arts Festival and at Kaohsiung Senior High School in 2018.

Throughout her three years of study Alex performed in works choreographed by Adelina Larsson, Sarah Chaffey, Bernadette Lewis, Natalie Allen, Brooke Leeder, Filipa Peraltinha and David Mack in a remount of Rafael Bonachela’s ‘2 in D Minor’.

In 2018, Alex performed in Daisy Sanders’ work ‘A Resting Mess’ as a part of The Blue Room’s ‘Winter Nights’. She also has an interest in choreography and premiered her first work; ‘Via Lactaea’ alongside seven other WAAPA graduates at the 2019 Perth Fringe Festival, which was nominated for the Dance and Physical Theatre award.

In 2019, Alex completed her Honours as a part of LINK Dance Company under the directorship of Michael Whaites where she performed works choreographed by Niv Marinberg, Scott Elstermann, Raewyn Hill and Michael Whaites. Alex toured these works with LINK throughout Europe and performed in festivals including the Movement Sur La Ville Festival (Montpellier) and Faites De La Danse (Marseille) as well as touring to China and Melbourne.
