Daryl Brandwood

Daryl Brandwood was born in Perth, Australia and trained at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He joined West Australian Ballet in 1990 and was a member of the company intermiBently unCl 2012. Daryl also danced with the Australian Dance Theatre and was a soloist with The Australian Ballet Company. He danced with Balletmet in the USA, performing with them at New York’s famous Joyce Theatre. Some Career highlights include Twyla Tharp’s ‘ In the Upper Room’ Natalie Weir’s ‘ Where the Heart Is’ and Garry Stewart’s ‘DevoluCon’ for the 2006 Adelaide FesCval.

He won the silver medal in the Helsinki InternaConal Ballet CompeCCon and the 2006 Helpmann Award for best male dancer in a ballet or dance work for Chrissie Parrot’s ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’. He was awarded the 2011 West Australian Dance Award and the 2012 Australia Dance Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male dancer for the independent piece ‘Helix’ created alongside Barry Moreland.

Daryl joined Expressions Dance Company in 2012 performing in many contemporary works. In 2017 and 2019 he choreographed ‘Subsided VorCces’ and ‘Journeying’ for mature Perth company Momentum Dance. Daryl currently teaches and choreographs for many dance establishments throughout Perth.
