Luci Young
Luci Young is a dancer, performer, and maker based in Boorloo. Her practice sits at the meeting point of dance, textiles, and community, guided by an ongoing interest in how bodies hold knowledge and how creative spaces can support connection.
Luci completed her Advanced Diploma in Elite Performance through Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-Professional Year and her Bachelor of Dance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
She has collaborated and performed with Co:3 Australia, GUTS Dance, the West Australian Opera, STRUT Dance and local choreographers. In 2019, she received Performing Arts of Western Australia’s Best Newcomer Award. She is also a co-organiser of Make-Shift Evenings, a bi-monthly platform for sharing improvisational works within the WA dance community. In 2024, Luci was supported by the local government to travel to India, explore new movement practices and collaboratively develop Rage is Yellow with an international cast at Courtyard Koota, Bangalore.
Luci’s creative research investigates the tension between the temporal nature of dance and the material permanence of textile work—how each medium shapes community, communicates care, and raises political questions. Her work aims to queer generalised assumptions and expose how expectations can hinder deeper community connection and the supportive structures needed to face climate anxiety.
In Perth, Luci runs a weekly sustainable knitting group that creates set installations for local performance events. Alongside this, she repurposes fashion garments as ‘Y1’, facilitates sustainability workshops in schools through REmida Perth and continues to develop a facilitation practice grounded in inclusion, encouragement, collective learning, and process-driven creativity. Luci is the 2026 recipient of Creative Industries and Tourism’s Creative Young People’s Fellowship, which will allow her to take all of her practices one step further by engaging in mentorships and leading creative research throughout the year.
