Sarah-Jayne Howard
Sarah-Jayne Howard has had an illustrious career spanning over 20 years in Contemporary dance, working alongside leading choreographers and companies, and inspiring a generation of dancers with her distinctive physical style.
A graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance, Sarah-Jayne has created and performed roles with choreographers and companies across both Australia and New Zealand, touring extensively across the globe, those include Meryl Tankard’s Australian Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Company, Opera Australia, Gideon Obarzanek (Chunky Move), Garry Stewart (Australian Dance Theatre), Kate Champion (Force Majeure), Gavin Webber (Dancenorth), as well as with Douglas Wright, Michael Parmenter, Sean Curham, Raewyn Hill, Lucy Guerin, Stephanie Lake, and Splinter Group.
Sarah-Jayne has received numerous awards including four Green Room Awards (Roadkill Splinter group) and New Zealand’s prestigious Arts Laureate award, the country’s highest arts honour.
From 2018 to 2022, Sarah-Jayne served as Associate Artistic Director of Australian Dance Theatre under the mentorship of Garry Stewart. Today, she is a freelance choreographer, rehearsal director, and educator, currently lecturing in contemporary dance at Adelaide College of the Arts and Flinders University in South Australia.
