Yilin Kong

Yilin is a Perth based independent artist, performer, maker and sharer. In 2013 she performed with Buzz Dance theatre, OCHRE Contemporary Dance Company and was awarded the WA Dance Award for emerging artist. Since then she has also performed with Shaun Parker and Company, the WA Opera and in theatre works with Barking Gecko Theatre Company and Renegade Productions. Most recently she toured major festivals around Australia with Barking Gecko’s new work A Ghost in my Suitcase. Independently she has worked and performed with multiple local and international artists.

Along side performing Yilin has a keen interest in choreographing and working with young dancers having created multiple short works through short residencies and on WAAPA students and Co3 Contemporary Dance youth dancers. She enjoys sharing experiences, fostering creativity, encouraging curiosity and creating a space that harbours joy and spontaneity.

A highlight of Yilin’s performance career has been being part of the first Australian cast to perform Batsheva’s Decadance through STRUT Dance. She is currently working with Marrugeku on their new work Jurrungu Ngan-Ga.
