Co:3 Australia Announces appointment of Margrete Helgeby Chaney as Chair
Co:3 Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Chair, Margrete Helgeby Chaney.
Margrete is a founding director of Co:3 Australia and a leading donor. With a career focused on performance, Margrete’s experience also extends to advocacy, project management, audience and membership engagement, strategy and policy development in the arts.
Executive Director, Alana Culverhouse, said “The company and the Board are excited by the passion and great understanding Margrete has of the industry and we look forward to her leadership in propelling the Company into its next stage of growth.”
Margrete danced with West Australian Ballet, Chrissie Parrott Dance Company (Perth) and Rambert Dance Company (London). With Stefan Karlsson, she founded and performed in loaded and co.loaded which toured nationally and to New Zealand, and was presented as part of the Perth International Arts Festival. In 2005, she was awarded Most Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer at the Australian Dance Awards. Margrete was named in the best individual performer category by Dance Australia Critic’s Choice in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2005 and nominated for several Green Room Awards and Australian Dance Awards.
Other roles have included lecturing in both Contemporary and Classical Dance at WAAPA, Assistant Director at Opera Queensland, State Opera of South Australia and West Australian Opera, Director at West Australian Opera, Rehearsal Director at Buzz Dance Theatre (of which she later became Patron), Associate Producer at Performing Lines WA, Project Manager at Nova Ensemble and the Future Moves Project Facilitator.
She is passionate about dancer wellbeing and career transition pathways.
Over the course of her career, Margrete has served at the national, state and local level on funding, awards and strategic panels and boards, and, in the 80’s, as a dancer representative for the West Australian MEAA. She was the Chair of West Australian Ballet’s Artistic Review Panel from 2015 to 2018. She is currently a member of the Helpmann Awards Dance and Physical Theatre Panel. Here at Co:3 Australia Margrete was previously Chair of the Artistic Advisory Committee and, most recently, our Deputy Chair. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD).
Holding two Bachelor of Arts degrees (WAAPA at Edith Cowan University and the University of Western Australia), Margrete is MBA candidate at UWA.

Based in Perth, WA, Co:3 Australia is the state’s flagship contemporary dance company, contributing a unique voice to the national cultural environment. Led by Artistic Director Raewyn Hill, Co:3 Australia is an artistic house producing contemporary dance by expert contemporary dance-makers. With an ensemble of nine dancers, Co:3 Australia is a company of many creative voices, commissioning a variety of choreographers who create physically inspiring, thought-provoking and emotionally engaging work.
Co:3 Australia presents a range of curated, commissioned and created works. The dancers’ development is supported through an elite performance culture and a sector leading physical training and wellbeing program.

through their twenty member Elite Training Squad and 60 member Act-Belong-Commit Co:Youth Ensemble. Co:3 Australia is a resident company at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia.
